Long‐term stability of posterior crossbite correction, treated in the mixed or permanent dentition of growing children: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

When treating posterior crossbite, the primary goal is to achieve long-term crossbite correction. The majority of studies however focus on relapse increase in transverse dimension, but not itself, which an essential outcome. aim present study was determine stability (2 years minimum post-treatment) correction, treated mixed or early permanent dentitions growing children. Following registration PROSPERO (CRD42022348858), electronic literature search including PubMed, Embase, Web Science, Cochrane Library, and a manual were conducted up January 2023, identify longitudinal looking into correction Data extraction risk bias assessment carried out, subsequently, random-effects meta-analyses models used calculate estimates for at level. Twenty-two included, varying designs quality, representing 1076 patients, with different expansion appliances protocols. Meta-analysis results showed that 19.5% (95% CI: 15%; 25%) patients follow-up. At level, 19.3% total (including overexpansion) relapsed 13%; 27%) regardless whether there itself. from existing studies, moderate level evidence, indicate children unfavourable roughly 1 5 children, long-term. On average, 19% maxillary performed relapses long-term, may occur cases without crossbite.
